This Weekend at SSC:

The sport keeps marching on this weekend at Strathfield Sports Club, with a smorgasbord of offerings to fill your appetite.  Here’s our weekly insight into what we’ll be screening and we hope you get the chance to join us and cheer on your favourite team.

The NRL is back in a big way with live matches now being played five nights a week. The Dogs defence proved too strong for the Eels in Thursday night football, with a second-half shutout ensuring last year’s grand finalists banked their first two points of the year.

In other big match-ups this weekend the Raiders will be seeking to rally after sacking star fullback Josh Dugan when they line up against the Titans. The Tigers take on the Panthers in the battle of the west and the Sea Eagles and Knights will do battle after first up wins.

While rugby league and AFL have dominated the news headlines in recent weeks for all the wrong reasons, with the Crime Commission’s ongoing investigation into drugs in sport, it seems footballers have not been the only ones getting themselves in trouble.

The Australian cricket team have stood down four players for not doing their homework ahead of the Third Test against India. As a result Pattinson, Johnson, Khawaja and Watson will all be absent for the match in Mohali.

The Aussies will have their backs to the wall in their bid to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after being comprehensively beaten in the first two tests. We’ll be tuning in to hopefully see an improved performance and let’s hope the match goes the distance!

There will also be plenty of football action with the A-League finals just around the corner. There are numerous teams still jostling for a place in the top-six and this weekend’s fixtures will go a long way to dictating who will stay in contention.

Adelaide will play the Jets on Friday night and the Wanderers will look to keep their remarkable win streak going against the Heart on Saturday. This will be followed by the blockbuster clash between Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory. Both sides have players in doubt with injury but the prospect of seeing Del Piero take on Rojas will ensure this is one of the biggest games of the season.

Of course we haven’t forgotten about Super 15 Rugby. With the majority of the Australian conference match-ups out of the way, we’ll get to see what the New Zealand and South African provincial sides have to offer. The match of the weekend for our patrons will no doubt be when the Waratahs host the Cheetahs on Friday night. The Tahs will welcome back Berrick Barnes and will be hoping he can spark their misfiring attack to a much needed win.

There will be plenty more on throughout the weekend with highlights from the NAB Cup final and another round of EPL action. So whether you’re coming down for tennis or poker, football or a meal, you can be sure we’ll have heaps of sport on this weekend to keep you entertained!
