This weekend at SSC

We’ve been staying Mum about our recent sporting happenings but after all the Mums had their day last week we’re back with an insight into this weekend’s highlights.

Round 10 of the NRL kicks off tonight with the apprentice once again coming up against his master when Michael McGuire’s Bunnies host Craig Bellamy’s Storm. The two in-form teams are locked on ten points and we don’t expect them to be split by much in this one. The Broncos play the Titans in an all-Queensland affair in tonight’s other match.

The Matildas will also be in action tonight from 8pm as they come up against Jordan in their second match of the AFC Asian Cup. The Matildas led world champions Japan 2-0 in their opener before being forced to settle for a draw so the signs look good for our national women’s football team. The Aussies are the defending title holders and the tournament being staged in Vietnam also doubles as World Cup qualification for the top-five finishers.

With the English Premier League season now behind us, super Saturday will feature a host of rugby league and union clashes. The Sharks and Tigers will see numerous former teammates go head-to-head, while the Cowboys and Roosters contest will see plenty of State of Origin aspirants on show. The Reds and Rebels will both be looking to restore some pride to their Australian conference campaigns when they go into battle in the fifteen-a-side game.

The Waratahs will have to wait until Sunday to get their chance at keeping pace with the Brumbies. NSW will host the Lions from South Africa at Allianz Stadium in the afternoon as they continue their search for a maiden Super 15 title. If you’re not getting to the game we’ll have the likes of the flying Israel Folau live on the big screen.

There will also be plenty of tennis this weekend with the finals of the Italian Open being played across the weekend. This is the last tournament before the French Open so expect to see the world’s best clay-courters come to the fore. Of course there’ll be plenty of on court action here also – don’t forget you can now use our online booking system to reserve a court online.
