This weekend at SSC

While many will be enjoying a three-day week it’s business as usual at SSC as we bring you all the top offerings of sport this weekend. As the nation pauses to remember our war veterans on ANZAC Day we hope you will be able to spend some time with loved ones this long weekend – and we’re happy to host.

Friday will see a triple-header in the rugby league with the Dragons taking on the Roosters, Brisbane going up against Souths and the Storm hosting the Warriors. No one could’ve predicted how the table currently stands so we should see tight contests. Hopefully the referees will all be on their game and we won’t see the controversy that has marred the opening rounds!

The Auckland Blues have been in the headlines this week following Benji Marshall’s decision to quit rugby union. While they’ll be without the services of the former Tigers five-eight they’ll be hoping they don’t need him when they go into battle against the Waratahs. Another league convert, Israel Folau, might have something to say about that though as Isie seeks to continue his incredible try-scoring run this season.

Saturday is all about the A-League semi-finals, with Western Sydney Wanderers playing host to the Central Coast Mariners in a replay of last season’s grand final. Both sides have had to deal with mid-week Asian Champions League clashes, with the Wanderers managing to top their group, while the Mariners were unsuccessful in progressing the knockout phase. Only time will tell which team can back up on the domestic frontier and book a spot in the decider.

Sunday will again have plenty more rugby league and union, as well as the other A-League semi-final between Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory. However the fixture we’ve really got our eye on is Sunday night’s top-of-the-table clash between Liverpool and Chelsea in the English Premier League.

With just three rounds remaining the Reds are on the precipice of breaking their 24-year title drought though the Blues under the guidance of the enigmatic Jose Mourinho may have something to say about that. It certainly promises to be the most anticipated fixture of the season and we’ll have it live from Anfield.

Whatever you’re up to on this special long weekend we hope you enjoy some sport and respite. Don’t forget our tennis courts can now be booked online and our Golden Goal fields are a popular choice now that football season is in full swing. We hope to see you down at SSC at some stage and don’t hesitate to ask our staff about things that are coming up.
