There’ll be a carnival atmosphere at Strathfield Sports Club this weekend, with all the festivities of Melbourne Cup week on show. As always there’s also loads of sport on, so as we hit the back stretch in the week, saddle up and have a read of our weekly tips on what’s coming up.

Friday night will see the start of another pulsating round of A-League action, when the Western Sydney Wanders host Adelaide United to kick off round four. Last season’s Premiers Plate winners have put 10 past the Reds in their last two clashes combined and given the attacking style Adelaide have employed this year we’re sure there’s going to be a heap of goals in this one.

Saturday night the Aussies take on India in the decider of their one-day international series. The ledger is currently square at two-a-piece (with two wash outs), so game seven is set up to be a thriller. All sorts of records have been set in this series, with totals over 350 still proving difficult to defend. With the Ashes just around the corner, this will give our cricketers one last chance to impress selectors ahead of the upcoming home Test series against England.

Speaking of England, the Wallabies will go into battle against the old enemy later on Saturday night. The match is the first leg of Australia’s European tour and they’ll be aiming to get off to a winning start. There were signs the Wallabies are improving in their last outing loss to New Zealand, but wins are what is required if our new young brigade of stars are to silence the critics so this should be a really tight battle.

We’ll also have all the action from rugby league’s World Cup across the weekend and the Kangaroos will be looking to get their second win of the tournament when they come up against Fiji early on Sunday morning. While the Aussies will go into this clash as strong favourites, the Fijians made the semi-finals of the last World Cup so are certainly a side not to be taken lightly. We’re predicting plenty of tries from the fast men and we’ll be showing replays of this one throughout the day.

Of course there’s plenty more happening throughout the weekend, with all the glamour of the Spring Carnival being trotted out and another sparkling weekend of football in the English Premier League.

We’ll also be hosting one of our famous Members BBQ’s after our members’ social hit on Sunday. This will double as the last opportunity for our tennis members to renew for the upcoming year so come on down to ensure you’re on board and getting the most out of your membership. It all points to another spectacular weekend of sport at SSC, so race down as we make every post a winner.
