This Weekend at SSC

This weekend at SSC:

There’s another huge weekend of sport in stall for patrons of Strathfield Sports Club, as we aim to bring all the domestic and international competition to our screens for you.

The highlight across the weekend will no doubt be all the tennis action from the Australia Open, with players competing in Rounds 2 and 3 at Melbourne Park. We’ll have all the top matches playing on our projector screen so you’ll feel like you’re in the crowd, as the top seeds aim to navigate their way through the draw.

Turning our attention to other sports and the Aussie cricket team will be looking to reclaim the lead in their five match ODI series against Sri Lanka on Friday night. Comprehensively beaten last time out, the Aussies have recalled Test trio Michael Clarke, Matthew Wade and David Warner for the day/night clash. The Australian selectors much maligned rotation policy will again be under the spotlight as both sides search for some consistency in the 50-over format.

The following day is Super Saturday at SSC and football will take centre stage throughout the afternoon with another A-League triple header. All teams will be desperate for three points as they jockey for positions in the top-six in the lead up to the finals.

Sydney will be aiming for back-to-back wins when they take on Wellington in the early game. This will be followed by the Mariners taking on the Jets in another instalment of the F3 derby. To round out the night Perth will host the Victory, in what shapes as an intriguing fixture.

Of course we haven’t forgotten about the Big Bash Final, which sees the Perth Scorchers host the Brisbane Heat for domestic T20 honours. Both sides had thrilling and at times controversial wins in their respective semi-finals but all that will be put to one side as we wait and see who will stand up under the pressure to take the title.

However we anticipate all eyes will be on Rod Laver Arena for the matchup between our immerging 20-year-old talent Bernard Tomic and grand slam champion Roger Federer. We will no doubt be cheering for the one remaining Aussie in the singles draw, in a match that pits youthful aspiration against proven experience.

Moving to Sunday and Australia will again take on Sri Lanka in the 4th ODI. The series will be up for grabs so both sides will have to be at their best in order to seel victory. Brisbane will also take on Western Sydney to round out the weekend’s A-League action.

So as you can see given the forecast, we are predicting a great weekend of sunshine and sport. We look forward to seeing you down at SSC at some stage as we put the sport in Strathfield Sports Club!
