Did you know that we are now just over a month away from one of the biggest tennis tournaments on the Australian sporting calendar – the 2012 Apia International?

Taking place right here in Sydney from January 6 to January 12, the Apia International is set to bring in some of the biggest names in world tennis.

Already announced for the men's draw are none other than French superstar Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Australia's own Bernard Tomic, American John Isner, and another Frenchman in Richard Gasquet.

Tsonga, who has nine ATP Tour wins to his name and won a silver medal in the London Olympics doubles tournament alongside playing partner Michael Llodra, will be hoping to start 2013 with a bang after a disappointing 2012 season.

Meanwhile Tomic will be hunting his first career title, having so far failed to ever reach the semi-finals of an ATP event.

Also set to make an appearance are two of the top ten women's tennis stars in the world, Li Na and Caroline Wozniacki.

Wozniacki, who is a big name off the court as well as on it due to her relationship with golfing prodigy Rory McIlroy, made it to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open this year and will definitely be one to watch out for.

More than $436,000 will be up for grabs in this must see tennis competition, which will be hosted at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre.

Previous winners of the Sydney International include American all-star James Blake, who took home the title in 2007 and 2008, and Australia's own Lleyton Hewitt, who won this event an astonishing four times between 2000 and 2005.

Of course, the Sydney Olympic Park isn't the only place where you will find tennis courts in Sydney. If you want to get into the spirit of the Apia International, why not come down to the Strathfield Sports Club and try our state of the art facilities for yourself?
