SSC leading the way in Autumn Badge

We’re proud to report that Strathfield Sports Club is proving to be one of the strongest clubs in this year’s men’s Autumn Badge tennis competition.

As we prepare to enter the final few rounds of the season all five of the SSC’s sides are in the top three places in their division and will be full of confidence come finals time.

Our Men’s 1.3 side sit top of the table and are undefeated after ten rounds, amassing 69 points.

In the Men’s 2.4 grade the club is fielding two teams who sit second and third respectively.

The Club also has two teams in the 3.1 grade who sit first and second on the ladder and are currently separated by just half a point!

All of our teams have been training hard with the Club’s Inner West Tennis Academy coaches, with Alex (3.1), Shaun (2.4) and Inhwa (1.3) providing their expertise throughout the season.

The extra training sessions have clearly been playing dividends according to SSC Vice President and member of the mighty 1.3’s Mark Padd.

“There’s been great improvement in everyone’s games and great comradery both within and between teams this season,” said Mark.

“I can’t remember the last time the Club had so many teams vying for top spot in their grade and hopefully this means we claim a few trophies come finals time.”

SSC General Manager Chris Dunn was also full of praise for how the Club’s Badge teams have performed, saying management was continually looking at ways to improve the various tennis programs offered at SSC.

“The club is seeing a renewed interest in tennis in recent times, with the Club coming up with a number of initiatives such as our IWTA coaching sessions, to encourage participation.

“The fact that all five of our teams are in the top three in their grade is a fantastic achievement.

“The results are testament to the hard work the players and coaches have put in and the competitive and well spirited tennis environment we provide at SSC.”

On top of our five Badge teams the club’s new Premier League team made a winning start to their season, taking maximum points from their first round last weekend.

The team are set to make their home court debut at SSC this Saturday against a side that shapes as one of their strongest rivals in the division.

Play will get under way at 2.50pm on courts 10 and 11 and the Club is encouraging all members and visitors to drop in and support what promises to be some high level tennis!

Not to be outdone the Club’s Thursday night Division 1 Doubles competition is again proving to be extremely popular and competitive among our tennis members.

Team Mark are leading the way but less than ten points separates second to sixth, with a number of teams still having matches in hand. Click here to see the full table.
