SSC Badge teams ready for Super Saturday!

Records will be tumbling at Strathfield Sports Club this weekend as the autumn Sydney Badge tennis semi-finals get under way.

And while they might not be of the Olympic variety, hopefully we’ll see some medals around the necks of our members in the coming weeks!

SSC will boast five teams in the knock-out stages of the competition on Saturday after each team finished in the top three in their division – a remarkable achievement.

For the uninitiated Sydney Badge is the oldest tennis competition in the Sydney Metro area and has multiple grades on offer.

Games are played home and away at Tennis NSW Member Clubs throughout Sydney, with over 1200 players of all ages, levels and abilities involved in the latest edition.

Our Strathfield 2 team topped the 1.3 division, having only suffered one loss during the regular season.

In the 2.4 division we have two teams competing (Strathfield 3 & 4), who finished in second and third spot respectively and as such will square off on the weekend.

Not to be outdone our two teams in the 3.1 division (Strathfield 5 & 6) claimed the top two spots on the table and could potentially meet in the final.

It should also be noted that our newly former Premier League team are also representing the Club with distinction and currently sit in second spot with a few weeks of the season to go.

All of SSC’s six teams will be playing at home this weekend and they would love the support of their fellow members or anyone who is interested in joining the Club’s ranks on Saturday.

As an extra encouragement the club will be hosting a lunchtime BBQ – so hopefully we’ll be giving out buns on the sideline and bagels on the scoreboard!

Here are the match details for all our teams this weekend and we wish them the very best of luck!

SSC2 Badge 1.3 Court 10 & 11 11am-3pm

SSC3 v SSC4 Badge 2.4 Court 4 & 5 11am-3pm

SSC6 Badge 3.1 Court 2 & 3 11am-3pm

SSC1 Premier League Court 4 & 5 3pm-7pm

SSC5 Badge 3.1 Court 10 & 11 3pm-7pm

In terms of our intra-club competitions SSC can also report that we recently completed the fifth edition of our successful Tuesday night Men’s comp.

In Division 1 Charles Hempel beat Mrigesh Tamang in the final and in Division 2 Shanta Prajapati beat Marcin Matusiak. Congratulations to all our finalists!

The Club is expecting there to be approximately 30 competitors in our next edition starting soon, which is also proving to be a wonderful development pathway for some of our younger players.

Last season saw one of the Inner West Tennis Academy’s (IWTA) rising stars Feron Yee participate in order to gain match practice and build confidence, with that opportunity set to go to Lachlan Siu for the upcoming competition.

As always if you have any tennis related enquiries, whether they be about coaching or playing in our comps, you can contact the coaches at our IWTA.
