Mr Perfect FC have their eyes on silverware as their season draws closer to finals but 2017 has already been a momentous year for the men’s health organisation.

The grassroots football club have two teams competing in the Canterbury Districts Football Association, who are currently placed second and sixth in their respective divisions with three rounds to play.

However, for those involved being part of the Club is about so much more than simply winning.

Currently in their second season, Mr Perfect FC was borne out of a desire to shine a spotlight on men’s health issues and unite individuals who suffer from various mental illnesses.

Strathfield Sports Club are proud major sponsors of Mr Perfect FC and the work that they do, which forms part of SSC’s extensive community support program.

“Essentially without the sponsorship we wouldn’t exist, it’s as simple as that,” Mr Perfect FC co-founder and head coach Pete Regan told SSC.

“With that money it pays for the kits, insurance, training sessions, marketing Strathfield Sports Club and subsidises player registrations.

“Unlike other clubs we are a not for profit organisation. We’re not about money or results, we’re about playing sport and forging friendships which is so important for mental health.

“Football should be about having fun which is firmly at our core and certainly the boys have enjoyed the camaraderie, whether it’s on the field or having a few drinks at SSC after the game.”

In terms of their on-field exploits Mr Perfect have been more than competitive despite it being their first season in a new competition.

“The Div. 6 team might struggle to make the finals now but our Div. 5 team are pressing to win the league and earn promotion,” said Regan.

“We were top of the table but we’ve had two defeats in our last three games which have been a hammer blow but we’re still in second place and obviously hoping to win the league and then the finals – that’s our goal.

“Next season we’d love to get an Over 35’s team, we want to keep growing the Club, keep growing the name and our values.”

Also looking ahead Mr Perfect are planning to host a social one-day football tournament on SSC’s Golden Goal later in the year. Contact Mr Perfect FC if you’d like your club to be involved.
