Jo-Wilfried Tsonga storms to victory at Moselle Open

World number seven Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has claimed a comfortable victory at the Moselle Open in Metz, France, defeating Andreas Seppi 6-1, 6-2 in the final earlier this week (September 23, local time).

Tsonga, who successfully defends his title after previously winning the 2011 event, was far and away the best player in the tournament and looked unstoppable throughout.

The 27-year-old started the event by defeating Clement Reix and Jesse Levine in one sided, two set contests. In the semis he met Nikolay Davydenko who put up a much tougher fight. Davydenko recovered from a slow start to take the second set but eventually went down 6-0, 3-6, 6-4.

Meanwhile the fifth seeded Seppi nearly didn't make it past the first round, where he lost the first set in a tiebreaker to unseeded opponent Ivan Dodig. However the 28-year-old Italian recovered to claim a 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 victory.

He quickly moved past that early hiccup to defeat Vincent Millot and Florian Mayer in straight sets, before edging out Gael Monfils 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the semi-finals.

The final was a one sided affair however, Tsonga saving his best performance for last as he dispatched his opponent in just under an hour.

The win is Tsonga's ninth career title and his first since taking the Qatar Open in January, and comes on his home court.

"This is the first time I have been able to defend a title, so it's even more special that it's here at the Moselle Open, where I am the ambassador," said Tsonga.

"I had a complete match with no gaps, as opposed to yesterday. Of course, it's a lot easier when I can make a difference in two or three shots. If I had to define this week, I would simply say it was a perfect one."
