Davis Cup semi-finalists determined

The semi-finals of this year's Davis Cup will be an all European affair after Switzerland, Italy, France and Czech Republic all progressed to the final four of the Men's team event on the weekend.

There were some stunning comebacks along the way with Switzerland and France both coming from behind to win their best-of-five match-ups against Kazakhstan and Germany respectively.

Roger Federer, the 17-time grand slam title winner and reigning Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka both won their reverse singles to see them through on their home court in Geneva.

Amazingly this is the first time in over a decade the Swiss have qualified for the semi-final, with Federer claiming the decisive match against Andrey Golubev much to the delight of the home fans.

They will play Italy in the semi-finals who were able to overcome Great Britain with a 3-2 victory on clay in Naples.

The Brits looked set to qualify for their first semi-final in 33 years with a 2-1 lead going into the final day. However Fabio Fognini stunned Wimbledon champ Andy Murray in straight sets to help stage an unlikely comeback.

France continued the trend of nations with home court advantage progressing when they claimed the final three ties to overcome Germany in Nancy.

It was the fourth time the French had rallied from 2-0 down, albeit against an understrength German side. Gael Monfils and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga getting the job done in the reverse singles.

Their last-four opponents and two-time defending champions Czech Republic had an easier time on court, humbling Japan 5-0 in Tokyo.

Lukas Rosol and Radek Stepanek put their side in a strong position after the opening day's play before the pair combined in the doubles with a straight sets win to secure their progression.

Meanwhile the International Tennis Federation has announced the seeds for the Draw for the 2014 World Group play-offs, which Australia will be competing in order to retain their status at the top level.

The Aussies have been seeded sixth for the draw which is set to take place in London this week.
They will be drawn against one of Brazil, Colombia, India, Israel, Netherlands, Slovak Republic, Ukraine or Uzbekistan, with the play-offs scheduled to take place in the second week of September.
