Badge update and Club Champs

Strathfield Sports Club’s Spring Badge tennis teams are gearing up for a big weekend on court, with the final round of the season happening on Saturday.

Three of the club’s four teams are still very much in the finals reckoning, with the closeness of the current standings ensuring every game will count!

Our Division 1 team, consisting of Mark Padd, Goran Blazevic, Charles Hempel, Nick Oliver, Imad Indari, Inhwa Song and Taehoon Kim are currently in third place, having claimed 3.5 of their 5 matches.

Despite winning just over half of their sets they have won the points that matter and are just four points off second, with a favourable draw in the last round.

The first of our Division 2 teams, comprising of Daryl Hart, Rod James, Robert Bows, David Rutherford, Dharani Parthy, Shaun Max, Byungjoo Park and Je Young Lee are also well placed.

The side are currently fifth but just two points behind Roseville, who they play tomorrow, so a couple of positive results will be enough to see them edge into the play-offs.

It was a tougher season for our second team in Division 2, who have played their last match as they have a bye tomorrow and will miss the finals.

Conversely our Mixed team is flying high in second place and will feel they are a strong chance in the finals which will be played over the following two weekends (28 Nov, 5 Dec).

Following the completion of the Spring Badge season the SSC Club Championships are set to take place on Saturday 12th December which is always a great day on our calendar.

This year the Club will again be conducting Opens and B-grade Championships, with prizes for both in singles and doubles.

Club President Mark Padd has urged all tennis members to sign up in their respective division for what promises to be another competitive and fun day.

“The Club Championships are a great way for our tennis members to test themselves against players they might not normally play against,” he said.

“The day is about fostering and building new friendships between our tennis members – with bragging rights ensuring there’s a little extra to play for.

“The Club will be putting on one of their famous BBQ’s and it will be a great social event for everyone involved so sign up to ensure you’re a part of it.”

With some scorching days on court expected over the coming weeks SSC would like to remind everyone to ensure they have proper sun protection and stay well hydrated while playing tennis.

The Club provides free chilled filtered water and sun-screen inside the clubhouse so don’t be left red faced!
